OUR TOWN (2009) The theatrical simplicity of this production, to my mind, called for a title treatment, not an image. Working with the familiar names of Wilder and Cromer, this Our Town art boasts what I consider to be the official colors of theatre poster art: red, black and white. The logo design was used to great effect on the backs of buses circling midtown Manhattan. In online banners, the boldness of the logo stands out a mile. The wonderful producer, Jean Doumanian, was not sure about the artwork’s effectiveness at first. But in every meeting we ever had after the art was approved, she always took a minute to say to me, “I just love that logo.” On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, this production of Our Town broke the record that the original Broadway production from 1938 set for its longest run: 337 performances, and counting!
